Digital Video Production

On 05, Feb 2016 | No Comments | In Technical | By Tetra Films

Digital Video Production
Digital video has been around for so long, and is increasingly used on the web to such an extent that the average user now expects to view videos instead of having to read text. For most people writing is going the way of the dinosaur, and unless you are part of the shrinking group of literary hounds and purists who love the written word, video will be your primary form of information gathering soon if it isn’t already.

What is it?
If you don’t already know what digital video production is, here is a quick and dirty description. It is any video that is recorded digitally on a digital device like a DSLR camera, phone, or web cam device to name a few. Another factor is that is is generally displayed on the web, a computer, or on the almost extinct… DVD. It is everywhere on the internet, in apps, on websites, and on the infamous You Tube.

Why Video?
Most if not all people can gather information quicker via video, and as humans we tend to take the path of least resistance. Unlike our great grandparents, we grew up with television, and viewing moving images are a normal part of life. It was inevitable that the television experience would eventually cross over to the internet. Plus its relatively cheap, and fairly easy to produce in comparison to the old days of film, which are now all but forgotten.

Cheap and Easy
What makes it “cheap”? Well cheap is relative to the size of your pocket book. For large organizations digital video is cheap, but for the common cottage business, kickstarter, or musician, it still takes a toll when marketing budgets are small. But even for those who’s budgets are slim there are ways to film your own videos even if can’t shell out the $2000 or more to get your video idea out to the world. The “easy” part of the “cheap and easy” equation comes from the simplification and automation of the equipment available today… all thanks to the magical microchip. Production processes have also simplified over the years due to a variety of more readily available systems that make planning easier and editing in post production faster.

Where are we headed?
Every day we get more automation of video production tasks that previously required human tinkering. One day we’ll have cameras like the ones in the Hunger Games, and editing software that prepares edited videos with the click of a button. But the story, creativity, and inspiration will continue to come from people like you and me. We are the ones who spawn the ideas, initiate and bring our creations into the world, no matter how big or small.

Your Goals
If you are keen on getting your message out there to create a stir, to boost sales, or to build brand awareness, digital video is a great way to do it. At Tetra Films, the premiere Vancouver video production company, its our goal to help you make a positive impact with the power of video. We know you have a great idea and good intentions, and we would love to hear more about your digital video projects.

Video Production London Ontario

On 06, Sep 2015 | No Comments | In Technical | By Tetra Films

Video Production London Ontario – For every agency and organization looking to create video that makes an impact, there are always opportunities in every project to connect to the core message and deeper story. This is where the greatest potential lies to make a connection with your audience.

Want your video to connect? Well if you work at an agency or you are part of an in house marketing team you’ve probably already done the footwork and you know who your audience is and what they like or feel is important. So you should have a good idea of your strategy and messaging, now you need to find a team who can create video that matches with your message.

You need the video to have the right tone and feel, so a good production team is a must. Your producer should take care to ensure all the pieces fit together and your director needs to make sure that you get what you need out of the actors, interviewees, and technicians to tell the story so it connects with the viewer.

When we approach a project at Tetra  Films a lot of our energy goes into information gathering process to ensure the messaging is built to hit the target. This is mostly because we work on a lot of projects that have sensitive subject matter or a social impact component which requires in depth conversations with multiple stakeholders and communities with varied needs. Having done this process many times we have noticed that this work pays off and really connects with the audience.

If your in marketing or part of an HR team and are planning a video, give us a call, we’d be happy to share our knowledge. Consulting sessions start at 1.5 hours in length. We’ll help you get clear on your needs and create a clear course of action for you. We look forward to speaking to you!

Video Production Victoria BC

On 12, Aug 2015 | No Comments | In Technical | By Tetra Films

Video Production Victoria BC – While on a recent trip to Victoria I was struck by how many great places to shoot there were. The heritage buildings topped my list, and the walk along the harbour is very picturesque. When you have the availability of great backgrounds it makes shooting a lot easier and more fun.

The key to composing a good shot is having an experienced camera man with good training and a good eye. It may seem like common sense but if you are searching for a camera person for your event choose someone with experience shooting events, and visa versa if you are looking for someone to shoot products or green screen get a technician experienced in that speciality. We are getting ahead of our selves though, the first thing we should focus on is the planning process.

When planning your next shoot gather the team together and get clear about what your goals are, and what you hope to accomplish with your video. We always lead with our mission: to create a positive impact in our world.

Then its time to look for a production company that suits your needs. If it’s a small job you can ask for a quote right away. If you are unfamiliar with the video production process or are looking to set up some In house video production or have a larger project in mind I would always recommend that you pay for a few hours of consulting to get a clear idea of the best practices when beginning a video production project.

Good luck on your next project and if you need help or advice give us a call at Tetra Films, we’d be happy to help.

Music Video Production

On 11, Aug 2015 | No Comments | In Technical | By Tetra Films

Music video production costs can start as low as $5000 and can go up to hundreds of thousands and even millions of you have budgets like Taylor Swift. If you’re new to making music videos there are a few things you’ll need to consider before you get started.

First consider your budget, on the low end, pre production, a one day shoot (which will most likely consist of 2-3 locations with simple lighting set ups), and 4-5 days of editing will run in the $5000 range. If you are a new comer to film production be aware that it can take a long time to shoot even what appear to be very simple scenes, and if you want your video to look good it is always best to budget adequate time for lighting and camera positioning.

Second dream up a great video concept that matches your budget. If you have deep pockets you will have a lot of flexibility, but if you have less to spend then you’ll need to simplify. Either way a few dollars spent on a consulting session with a director and producer in advance will be money well spent. Consider your audience when planning your idea; the most successful directors and producers always consider their audience as they create because in the end that is who we are creating things for.

Third connect with a production team that matches your style, vibe and goals. At Tetra Films we pride ourselves on our mission to create positive change in the world. If that drives you too then we’d be a good match. Think about why you are doing what you are doing and find a team that is working towards the same goals.

At the end of the day music video production rates very high on the fun and creative scale. There are so many options in regards to story telling available, and video concepts are not locked into a box. Music video production is always a flexible and inspiring ride.

Video Production Halifax

On 10, Aug 2015 | No Comments | In Technical | By Tetra Films

Video production Halifax – If you are on the hunt for a video production company in Halifax, Nova Scotia, I suggest that you do your best to stay away from the video production companies who ask you to go down to the local pub to find them… I say that in jest because I grew up on the east coast and I myself have spent many a day at the local pub in my younger years, and I can guarantee that my hands were rarely steady :-).

All jokes aside, if you are looking for a good shooter you need someone with steady hands, and preferably someone who spends most of their time working with a camera. At Tetra Films I don’t spend my time shooting, I spend it gathering information, making sure projects run smoothly and on time, and ruminating about how we can offer something of greater and greater value to our customers. Our mission is to help our clients improve their community, marketplace and world using the power of video. We take what you do best (hopefully that is something helpful to others) and create video assets that connect emotionally to your audience. We have producers and directors on staff who share the same sentiment and a dedicated group of technicians who have steady hands for the always important shoot days.

In Halifax, just like in all cities in North America, there are a tonne of great technicians out there, but if they are not guided by the right principals you might find that your efforts and money could be wasted. Before you google “video production Halifax” or book your next video production team think about what you want out of your video, get as clear as you can about how you want to affect your viewers, and about the benefits of your product, service, or initiative. This will guide you through the video production selection process, and the pre-production, production, and post-production processes. If you work from the heart then you will get the best results short and long term. Call us if you need consulting help, we’d be happy to get you started on the video production process, and fill you in on what you need to know before you start your project. Its important to know what to expect when putting together a video, what the pitfalls are, and how to do things so you have a much higher chance of success. After you have a solid foundation laid then you can google “video production Halifax” and feel you have a road map that will get you to where you want to go. Of course I will suggest that you certainly consider Tetra Films, but if we are not the right production team for you because of your particular needs, we would be happy to forward you to another team that would better suit you. Give us a call today!

Video Post-Production

On 09, Aug 2015 | No Comments | In Technical | By Tetra Films

Video Post-Production is a very important part of the video production process and one of Tetra Film’s 3 main stages of producing a video. The 3 stages of making a video are Pre-Production, Production, and Post- Production.

The term Post-Production is used to define all the operations comprised from the moment the actual shooting ends to the moment the video is completed and ready to be distributed. Adding and modifying the soundtrack, adding visual effects, color correction and other video editing operations are completed in the video post-production stage.

The regular post-production operations can require a lot of resources and time; depending on the type of video and the amount of pre-production planning that occurred, video post-production can take any where from 1 week to several months. Post-production regularly is more time consuming than the actual recording/production phase.

At one time editing and other processes were completed only by high end editing systems; now video post-production equipment has become more accessible with the advances of video processing software. Presently most editing is completed by editors working in house or from home offices. Depending on the needs of the production some specialty processes still need to be completed with more expensive specialized systems, technicians, and equipment. An example of this would be extensive color correction processes necessary on higher budget commercials.

Regardless of how much time you spend in any of the production phases Yoda would always encourage us all to let the “force” guide us in the outset. Begin by allowing your production to be connected to your companies value set,  and never loose site of that. Making an emotional impact will always be easier if this approach is taken. The fluff can come in later and will make a stronger impression if it is backed by something of substance.

If your organization needs help planning a video or video marketing campaign Tetra Films offers consulting services on an hourly basis.
